Yes, a simple beverage taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach will set you up to achieve success in your daily nutrition habits and aids in digestion, fat loss and effective detoxification of your body. Here’s why..

Improves Digestion

Lemon or lime juice is chemically similar to your stomach acids. So introducing them first thing in the morning to you body will help in facilitating gastric function & improve stomach acid levels. Also, once it leaves the stomach, your gallbladder will be stimulated to relase bile acids. The salt in the drink will also help in this provide by providing chloride which is essential for stomach acid prodution.

It is critical to have enough stomach acid for vitamin absorption. You are not what you eat but you are what you absorb. The B vitamins such as B6, Folate & B12 are essential for dopamine production which provides you motivation and drive early in the day. You need optimal levels of stomach acid for effective protein digestion & baterial destruction. In addition, the salt in the drink helps to facilitate bowel movement for effective toxin elimination from the body.

Adrenal Glands

These are glands sitting on top of your kidneys and produce minimaly 50 different type of hormones such as cortisol, epinephrine, aldosterone, DHEA, etc. They are needed for various functions of the body including heart rate regulation, blood pressure, hydration levels, blood sugar levels and sex hormones production.

Your adrenals depend on sodium quite heavily for optimal function. There are just too many lies been told about salt. In fact, too many people are deficient in sodium. If you crave for salty foods, you are having an issue with poor adrenal gland function!

However, stay away from table salt. Use only coloured salt such as Himalayan salt, Brittany sea salt, etc. The colors of good salt is anything but white as it’s a proof of mineral content.

Liver health

Lemon and lime has been shown to be liver protective. In addition, their high Vitamin C content (in fact higher then oranges) supports glutathione production. Glutathione is a peptide that plays an important role in the liver detoxification pathways.

Your liver depends on minerals, vitamins & protein in order to perform its role in detoxification.

A large portion of the protein you eat in the morning are used for your liver detox function. So breakfast is the best time to provide glutathione and protein. So, a warm cup of lemon water with salt, then breakfast with meat & nuts is perfect and ideal to support your liver to perform its natural duties.

Things to note:

Do not use lemon juice in a bottle as they’re usually lacking in nutrients. Always use fresh lemons.

As for the water, use only clean filtered water and avoid cold water as it’s stressful for your gut early in the morning. Warm water works best.
